What I Believe ~ Statement of Faith
1. I Believe … The Scriptures are inspired by God and proclaim His purpose, design and plan for our lives… God is Inspirational and
The Bible is the infallible Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, revealing God’s purpose and direction.
The Bible was written by men who wrote under the direct control, inspiration, and anointing of God. The Bible is the Word of God. It increases
faith, instructs and corrects so that we might become holy, separated from the world and committed unto God. The main theme of the Bible is
God's plan of salvation in Jesus Christ.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 New International Version (NIV)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may
be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2. I Believe … There is one God, revealed in three persons (the Trinity): God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit… God is
The one true God revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM”, the creator of all things and Redeemer. Eternal and infinite with no
beginning and no end. His strength is made perfect in my weakness. He is the One who was, who is, and who will be forever.
Exodus 3:14 New International Version (NIV)
14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
John 10:30 New International Version (NIV)
30 I and the Father are one.”
John 14:26 New International Version (NIV)
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have
said to you.
3. I Believe … that Christian fellowship is God's Love, which we are all divinely called to reveal and Scripturally ordained to serve… God is
God is Love and He loves all people. It is God’s desire to reach those who are poor, oppressed, widowed or orphaned, and to heal the
brokenhearted. It is the mission of God’s people, His children who have accepted God’s offer of redemption through faith in Jesus Christ and
His sacrifice of death on the cross, to seek and save the lost.
1 John 4:16 New International Version (NIV)
16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
Psalm 68:5-6 New International Version (NIV)
5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.
6 God sets the lonely in families, He leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.
4. I Believe … Jesus is the Son of God and was both human and divine… God is Relational... Jesus is the way to the Father.
Philippians 2:5-7 New International Version (NIV)
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
John 14:6 (NIV) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
5. I Believe … we are created in the image of God… God Restores.
Man is created in the image of God but separated from God by sin. Without Jesus we cannot have a relationship with God. Man was made in the
image of God. When the first man, Adam, gave in to the temptation of Satan and chose to disobey God, he brought sin and its curse upon the
human race and the earth – leaving mankind and the earth broken. This fall from grace put man in the position of needing forgiveness in order
that his fellowship with God might be restored. The good news is that every person can be restored through salvation, trusting Jesus Christ
through faith and repentance accepting Him as our personal Savior. This salvation is not a result of what we do, but a proclamation of God’s
unmerited favor. Jesus was born of a virgin, Mary, sinless through life, and took our sin upon Himself as He died upon the cross, thus satisfying
the requirement of ultimate sacrifice for all mankind. He was buried, and after three days was resurrected, ascended into heaven, and is coming
again, bringing life and liberty to all who believe.
Genesis 1:26 New International Version (NIV)
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over
the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 New International Version (NIV)
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
6. I Believe … Water baptism by immersion and Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper) are two practices to show our commitment and
remembrance of what God has done… God Identifies.
Water baptism, as taught and demonstrated by Jesus, is the way for believers to identify with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
Christ ordained the observance of water baptism and the Lord's supper until He returns.
Matthew 28:19-20 New International Version (NIV)
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching
them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Romans 6:4 New International Version (NIV)
4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the
Father, we too may live a new life.
Matthew 3:16-17 New International Version (NIV)
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending
like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
7. I Believe … God sent His Holy Spirit with gifts to the Church to empower believers… God is Spiritual.
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a gift from God, empowering the believer to develop the character of Christ and live every day in God's will and
purpose. The Holy Spirit will convict or reprove or convince of guilt in regard to sin, shed light to
righteousness, reveal judgment, speak truths, comfort, teach, and glorify Jesus. He empowers us to witness these truths of Jesus until Jesus
John 16:7-16New International Version (NIV)
7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send
him to you. 8 When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 about sin, because
people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment,
because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.
He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from
me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me
what he will make known to you.”
8. I Believe … in the evidence of ‘Speaking in Tongues’ and spiritual gifts.
God gives all believers spiritual gifts. They are for the strengthening of God's people (the Church) and proof of God's existence and power to
unbelievers. The gifts of the Spirit are active and relevant today.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11 New International Version (NIV)
4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are
different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom,
to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one
Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of
tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each
one, just as he determines.
9. I Believe … Sanctification begins at salvation and is a progressive lifelong process which will continue until we meet God face-to-face in
eternity… God is our Redeemer.
Sanctification is the ongoing process of allowing God's character to be developed in us.
A believer is redeemed by the blood of Christ and made holy through sanctification becoming an acceptable offering to God.
Romans 15:15-16 New International Version (NIV)
15 Yet I have written you quite boldly on some points to remind you of them again, because of the grace God gave me 16 to be a minister of
Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. He gave me the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering
acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
10. I Believe … in the divine healing of the sick… God is the Great Physician.
Divine healing is active in the lives of people today through Jesus, who is the Healer. Healing includes physical, mental, emotional and spiritual
restoration. Though your hope may seem lost and your life may be shattered, there is a God who restores; He brings back to life that which you
thought was lost forever.
Matthew 9:35 New International Version (NIV)
35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every
disease and sickness.
Matthew 10:1 New International Version (NIV)
Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.
11. I Believe … in the blessed hope of Christ’s return (the second coming). God is the Conqueror.
Jesus will return some day at the appointed time in which the Father has established and take all those who have accepted Him as Savior home
to heaven to be with Him for eternity.
Jesus destroyed all the works of Satan, who is allowed to continue, for now, to blind the eyes of those who do not believe. Satan leads a host of
fallen beings who are his aids in warring against God and all believers. There will come a day when all who believe will rise to meet the Lord and
be with God forever.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 New International Version (NIV)
13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind,
who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen
asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not
precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the
archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up
together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
